There is nothing I like more than a cold glass of iced tea on a hot summer day. But I get bored with the regular old Lipton tea bags. I was craving something different. I visited my local Teavana and saw that they have these cool new iced tea pitchers. The pitchers themselves have an infuser basket that connects to the lid. You can unscrew the infuser basket off and add your own loose tea. What a great idea! I snatched it up.
There are many different benefits to drinking tea, especially loose leaf tea. Teavana sells exclusively loose leaf teas in a wide variety of flavors, from fruity to spicy to green to black. There is something there for everyone. Since it is summer, I decided to use some of the fruity teas I purchase from Teavana as my first experiment in tea making.

The pitcher is made of high-quality plastic that is BPA-free (which is good because plastics containing BPA are known to leech poison into whatever you're drinking and therefore poison you! Not good...) The lid is airtight and locks to close. The infuser basket fits into the lid and also screws closed for a tight locked fit. The pitcher is clear and has a bright green lid and spout. It really is too cute.
My absolutely favorite thing about this iced tea pitcher is that you put in HOT water and steep the tea that way... in the pitcher itself! Usually I've had to make my iced tea in a separate container with hot water because my pitchers weren't heat proof. I heat up a whole mess of water (usually two quarts) in my Keurig coffee maker and pour it in the pitcher. I select my tea, fill the basket (you fill the basket depending on how strong you want your tea; I like my tea strong so I use about 5 - 6 Tbsp of loose tea for a 2 quart pitcher) and screw on the lid, leaving a little room for steam to escape. Set your kitchen timer for the appropriate brew time and before long, you have a big pitcher of delicious, fresh-brewed iced tea!
You can pour it over ice immediately or allow it to cool and put the pitcher in the fridge. I like my tea straight up (it doesn't dilute the flavor) so I wait until it gets cold from the fridge before I pour a glass. I add Splenda (it dissolves in cold liquids) but you can add sugar when it's hot to sweeten your tea if you wish.
