Anytime there's a good sale on chicken or beef, I usually stock up. But, this means having to buy freezer bags so that I can freeze some of the meat for a later date. While, I usually pick one of the more expensive brands, I recently decided to try the Great Value brand found at Walmart. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical though. I had tried other store brands and had never had any luck. Would Great Value Freezer Bags be any different?
Thickness of Plastic
As soon as I opened the package of Great Value Freezer Bags, I thought this was going to be another brand that wasn't worth the money. The plastic felt so thin. I even grabbed the box and looked at it to make sure I hadn't bought storage bags instead. The box confirmed that I had bought freezer bags. As I packaged my chicken breasts, I had little faith that the Great Value brand would keep my food fresh.

Zipper
Great Value Freezer Bags don't come with fancy zipper pulls or even a double zipper. Instead Great Value Freezer Bags have one zipper. How would this one zipper ever keep my chicken breasts from getting freezer burn? After all, the commercials for the more expensive brands have told us over and over that a double zipper is so important. Again, I felt as though I had wasted my money.
Overall Quality
Surprisingly enough, despite being made of thin plastic and having only one zipper, Great Value Freezer Bags do an amazing job. I have checked the meat I packaged a couple weeks ago a few times and have yet to see any signs of freezer burn. The meat still looks fresh and doesn't have any dried out spots at all. Truthfully, Great Value Freezer Bags seem to do a slightly better job than the more expensive brands.
Satisfaction Rating
I would have to give Great Value Freezer Bags 5 stars. I expected to end up using these bags for basic storage, after seeing how thin the plastic was, but I was pleasantly surprised with this product. If you find yourself using freezer bags on a weekly basis, try the Great Value brand. You too will be surprised at the quality you get for the price you pay.
