Review: Fruit2o Natural Grape

Published 17:29 pm

I am not a big water drinker and never have been.

I can go days without drinking a single glass of water. I admit this freely, much to the chagrin of my father-in-law, a doctor, who has discussed (at great length) the health benefits of drinking water with me on more than one occasion. Still, I just don't find water palatable. Tap water in my town tastes more like chlorine bleach some days and I must admit, I am wooed by the sugar content in Coke.

In an effort to try to listen to his fatherly doctor advice, I decided I needed to find a water that actually tasted good to me and do something healthy for my body. Empty calories from Coke, though they taste great, were not helping my expanding waistline. That and being lectured about damaging my kidneys helped.

A friend recommended Fruit20 to me. I browsed the selection at the store and found that Kraft manufactures several varieties of this water. Among them were lemon, raspberry and grape. Unfortunately, not all flavors are available in my area.

However, a quick visit to the Fruit2O site reveals that in addition to lemon, raspberry and grape, Fruit2O also comes in orange, strawberry, tropical fruit, cherry and peach flavors. I settled on grape, since I thought I might like the grape flavor the best.

Taste:

I really liked the taste of the Natural Grape flavor. It was just enough to give the water flavor, but not too much like grape Kool-aid. I did find, however, that it tastes best when served very cold from the refrigerator. If served at a higher temperature, the flavor is not as crisp. I was able to freeze a bottle, but only after I drank a few ounces. Freezing did seem to concentrate the taste more than serving unfrozen, but it was still a pleasant flavor.

Caloric Content:

Fruit2O has no calories whatsoever. In fact, it is made primarily of purified water and contains 0% juice. It does have some sweeteners, but they do not add calories. There are no carbs, no fat and no protein in the drink either.

Serving Size:

Let's be honest here. The bottle is 8 ounces and the serving size is a mere 4 ounces (listed as two per bottle). In reality, one 8 ounce bottle is a serving. I do wish I could get these in a larger size that is still portable. I much prefer a 20 oz or 24 oz bottle.

Conclusion:

I like the taste. It is perfect for adult palates since it is not the sugary grape flavor I drank as a Kool-aid kid. It is worth the extra expense because otherwise I would not drink water at all. If you or someone you know is not drinking enough water because they do not like the taste, suggest a Fruit2O product in a flavor they might like.

For kids who crave flavor and beg for soda and juice all day, Fruit2O flavored water can be a great alternative to get them to drink water instead.
