Sliced and packaged deli and lunch meats are tasty and convenient food items that many American consumers purchase and eat regularly. They provide the basis for school and work lunches, as well as quick snacks at home. Quite often, however, sliced and packaged deli and lunch meats can be somewhat expensive. There is one national brand of deli and lunch meats that consistently offers high- quality, delicious products at substantially cheaper prices than any other national brand, as well as most store brands.

Farmland (R) Foods, based in Kansas City, Missouri, features an extensive line of meat products that are every bit as good as the higher- priced name brand products. For the past couple of years, I have been purchasing and consuming several varieties of Farmland (R) deli and lunch meats and have never been less than fully satisfied with each product that I have tried. Interestingly, I happened upon these inexpensive lunch meats while shopping at some of the small, neighborhood grocers and bodegas located in Hartford, Connecticut. After seeing them prominently displayed in the these grocers' meat cases repeatedly and witnessing many other customers regularly purchasing them, one day, I decided to try some of the Farmland (R) deli meats.

The first type of Farmland (R) deli meat that I tried was their cooked salami. As soon as I opened the tightly- sealed package, I was amazed at how high- quality the product obviously was. With a retail price of 0.99c for an eight- ounce package, I actually wasn't expecting very much. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the slices of Farmland (R) Cooked Salami were virtually identical in size, taste and texture as the more well- known name brands, which retailed for more than twice the price charged for this brand.

What I couldn't understand, is how this excellent brand of sliced deli and lunch meats could charge such inexpensive prices for such high- quality products. Being completely amazed and satisfied with their cooked salami, it wasn't long before I purchased some other varieties of Farmland (R) deli and lunch meat products. The small, independent grocer located around the corner from where I live regularly displays several varieties of Farmland (R) products, including their chopped ham, oven roasted turkey breast and bologna.

Because each of the varieties looked so good and was so inexpensive, I purchased one six- ounce package of oven roasted turkey breast and one eight- ounce package of chopped ham. The Farmland (R) oven roasted turkey breast possesses a true, oven- roasted flavor that speaks of high- quality and freshness one normally only finds with expensive store- roasted varieties or home- cooked turkey breast. This sliced turkey product contains only 25 calories, with 5 calories from fat per one- ounce serving.

With the chopped ham, I expected to encounter a hodge- podge of pork cuts melded together into slices. Instead, what I discovered was a very tasty product that actually looked and tasted like real ham. The texture and consistency of the Farmland (R) Chopped Ham was pleasant to chew, without containing chunks of "mystery meat", or gelatinous globules which are sometimes present in lower- quality versions of this product. This chopped ham product contains 70 calories, with 50 calories from fat, per one- ounce serving. Because I was so pleased with the other products that I had consumed, I have also purchased packages of Farmland (R) Pickle Loaf and Spiced Luncheon Loaf and have been completely satisfied with each product.

Having consumed many brands of deli and lunch meats through the years, I can honestly state that the products manufactured by Farmland (R) Foods are of equal taste and quality to those presented by the much more well- known name brands. With their very inexpensive price tags, which are printed right on the labels, these products become even more desirable. For consumers seeking high- quality, delicious sliced, packaged deli and lunch meats at very inexpensive prices, this food writer recommends that they try purchasing any of the Farmland (R) deli and lunch meats, which are sold at major supermarket chains and independent grocers across the United States.
