Review: Cloth Diaper Original and Toddler Snappi

When I first started using cloth diapers when my son was born, you could call me old fashion, not because I was using cloth diapers but because I was using diaper pins for my night time diapers. I did not have any complaints with using prefolds and proraps, the cloth diapering system of my choice, and still do not, but I will say that I dreaded the night time diapers because I had to use diaper pins.

Now I am using a Toddler Snappi and could not be more happy. After a year of using safety pins I decided to try out the lovely cloth diaper invention the Snappi, and I bought an original and a toddler size one.

The reason that I need safety pins is because at night time instead of a prorap I use plastic pants. A Snappi connects the pieces of cloth together like a pair of safety pins would. Clearly safety pins that are made for cloth diapers are as cheap as fifty cent for four of them. Losing them is not that big of a deal, and you most likely will.

They are not hard to use but there is the chance that you could poke your baby and that is just terrifying. It took me some time to get comfortable using safety pins when I cloth diapered but I never reached a point where I liked it and as my son got older he became more and more squirmy during a diaper change. For this reason I decided to finally get a Snappi, a cloth diapering product that I have been wanting for a very long time.

Since my son was a little over a year I got an original sized Snappi and a toddler sized Snappi, I figured that if the original Snappi didn't fit him I could give it to a friend with a baby who also cloth diapered her child and if he needed the toddler one right away I would have it.

I found that I liked the fit of the toddler one better and so we used that Snappi and I lent the other to my sister who had a little one herself, and the original Snappi worked great for her. I liked the Snappi so much that I used it on every diaper, not just the ones at night time, just to keep the diaper on my little one better and I discovered that I hardly had any leaking onto the cover when I did this. I have not notice any wear on my prefolds from using the Snappi so that is a nice plus as well.

I would recommend a Snappi to anyone who planned on using such cloth diapering systems as flatfolds, prefolds and contour cloth diapers. One thing that I will say though is that you will want to make sure that the Snappis do not hook on to your carpet if you are changing your child on the floor, because then when you lift them up they could potentially get stuck and scratch your hand.

They are not that expensive at all, the original was about two and a half dollars and the toddler size Snappi was about three in a half each and you really only need one of each. I am glad that I have them for the rest of the time that my son was in cloth diapers. You can find out more the Snappi and other cloth diaper accessories at Baby in Cloth Diapers.
