One of my favorite ways to start each day is with a good cup of coffee. Founded in 1862 by Caleb Chase and James Sanborn, this brand was the first ground coffee to be distributed to both coasts. A quality for value tradition has been a guiding principle for Chase &Sanborn for the last 150 years. They are the first coffee company to package and ship coffee in tin cans in America.

Mr. Chase met Mr. Sanborn in 1864. Chase worked with his father at a grocery store till the age of 24 in Boston. Mr. Sanborn, four years younger than Chase, met with Mr. Chase in 1878. They joined forces and started producing both tea and coffee. In 1880 they expanded to Chicago. Two years later they expanded into Canada. By 1882, they were selling over 100,000 pounds of coffee in the Boston area. They became very aggressive in expansion and moved their products both West and South in the United States and throughout Canada. They were also first to ground their own coffee beans for use.

Today Chase &Sanborn is part of the Massimo Zanetti Beverage Company. They also supply Hills Brothers Coffee and are located in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Chase and Sanborn comes in both regular and instant coffee. The coffee cans come in two sizes 10.5 oz cans and 34.5 oz cans. The larger can is 978g. The coffee can be used in all coffee makers. You can also get decaffeinated coffee that is 99.7% caffeine free. While all Chase &Sanburn coffee comes in a blue can, the decaf comes in a aqua green can.

Each can has a easy open tab. It is vacuum sealed for freshness. It has a plastic lid that goes over the top of the can once it is open to retain its freshness and aroma. It is a special roast that maintains its smoothness over time. You can drink it at anytime of the day.

The cost of a can of Chase and Sanborn depends on where you live.

Interesting advertising information

Chase &Sanborn has had some very interesting ads in the past. One featured an old lady looking into the bottom of a cup and her daughter asking her what she was looking at. The mother replied, "I wonder why everyone doesn't drink Chase and Sanborn?" Another one according to Wikipedia , showed a husband spanking his wife because she chose another brand of coffee. In old days, it was considered as reasonable. However, today it is sexist.

Then in 1957, Art Linkletter and Tennessee Ernie Ford were featured on what is now considered vintage advertising. It was in celebration of their 93rd year in business.

My own review is that it has a very fine aroma. It is the type of coffee smell that you get in the morning before you taste your first drop. The smell that prepares you for that first enjoyable cup. It is the brand of coffee that I will serve whenever we have guests over for a visit.
