Review: Banquet Homestyle Bakes

I picked up a large box of Banquets Homestyle Bakes at the grocery store. This was the first time that I noticed this product on the shelf. I was told that they had it for some time now.

The box contains two cans of meatballs in Marinara Sauce that features Hunt's Tomatoes. The box also has a bag of small pasta that looked like Penne and a bag of Parmesan Cheese. The box weighed 2 pounds and 4.6 ounces.(1.04kg)

The good thing about the product is that there is three ways to prepare it. You can do it on the stove top or in the oven. You can also use a Microwave Oven as well. To complete the product, you need one cup of hot water. Instructions are given on the entire backside of the box. You don't need a magnifying glass to read them either.

I decided to use an 11 by 7 inch baking dish. Open both cans with a can opener. They are not the pull type can openers, so you will need a can opener. Pour one can into the cooking dish and mix it with half a cup of your hot water. Do the same thing with the second can. Distribute the meat balls evenly and be sure they get coated with the sauce. Next add your pasta, from its package. Again be sure that they get coated and even distributed through out the bake pan. Next take Aluminum foil and place it over the top of the cooking pan. Place it in the oven at the preheated temperature of 425 degrees. Now just let it bake for 40 to 45 minutes.

When it is done, remove it from the oven and sprinkle the cheese on top and then let it sit for five minutes. It is ready to serve. The box says that one box will serve five but, I found it closer to four.

Another interesting thing about this type of meal is that you can easily add other ingredients. I diced up a green pepper and added it. I believe you could do the same with mushrooms, and other tasty veggies, too. I think you could even add miniature shrimp from a can to it as well. Because it takes approximately 45 minutes to cook, that gives one the opportunity to add something. One thing to keep in mind though is that the pasta needs plenty of the sauce and water to cook well. So I wouldn't overload the baking pan.

For our meal, we also had hot rolls to go with it. The rolls were great for cleaning up the extra sauce on the plate. A small lettuce salad before the main course will add to your meal as well.

We had left overs that went into the refrigerator and I warmed it up for my lunch the next day. It keeps well in a container as long as it stays refrigerated.

So if pasta is on your menu this week, you might want to give Banquet Homestyle Bake. It is quick and easy to prepare and tastes very good.
